Fundraising day for Ukraine
We had a fundraising day for Ukraine on Valentine’s Day. We had a very special assembly lead by three Ukrainian children who are now living in our country. Anastazja has been living in our country since she was 3 years old. Her cousin, Sofia and Sofia’s mum left Ukraine to come and live with them. Sofia left her country around March time last year and is in P7. Anastazja’s mum works in our school kitchen and Sofia’s mum now works there too.
In November 2022, Rita and her mum left Ukraine and are being hosted by the Coulter family. Rita is in P6 and is in Heidi Coulter’s class. Anastazja, Sofia, Rita and Heidi lead the assembly, talking about their experiences of coming to N Ireland and about their home country, Ukraine. The girls wrote their own stories in English and read them aloud in assembly. Anastazja talked about Ukrainian food, the weather and beautiful places to visit. Sofia and Rita told us about their life in Ukraine and the cities which they came from. Whilst, Heidi told us about first meeting Rita at Dublin airport. The girls also made a PowerPoint about Ukraine for us to watch.
We are extremely proud of Anastazja, Sofia and Rita and are privileged to have them in our school. A big well done to them!
We raised £1062.50 for Ukraine. We will be supporting a charity which Anastazja and Sofia’s mum are involved with called Ukrainians in Northern Ireland. This charity will be using the funds to buy an ambulance vehicle for Ukraine.
Thank you everyone for your very kind donations.
